Cookie and storage policy

GearWatts stores a few small items in your browser to work properly. Advertising cookies are used only with your consent in the EEA and the UK.

Updated

1. What this policy covers

Cookies and similar technologies (such as the browser's local storage or IndexedDB) store or read information on your device. Some are strictly necessary or serve a function you asked for, and do not need your consent. Others, such as advertising or analytics ones, do need it (art. 22.2 of Spanish Law 34/2002, LSSI-CE, and the ePrivacy rules).

2. Functional storage of GearWatts

The following items are set by GearWatts itself, only on your device, and are not used for advertising or tracking. They are exempt from consent because they are needed to provide the features you use or to remember your choices.

3. Google AdSense and consent cookies

GearWatts shows Google AdSense advertising on public content pages and possibly in the app. Google and its advertising partners may set or read cookies and similar identifiers in your browser. By category:

  • Consent management: Google's consent message (TCF) stores your choice so it does not ask again at every visit. It is needed to respect your decision.
  • Advertising and personalisation: to show ads and, if you consent, to personalise them using your browsing activity.
  • Measurement and fraud prevention: to count impressions and clicks, limit how often an ad is shown and detect invalid traffic.

In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the consent message asks for your permission before advertising cookies are used. If you refuse, you may still see non-personalised ads, which do not use these cookies for personalisation. The names and durations of these cookies are set by Google and may change. You can read how Google uses them at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. Your rides and health data are never used to choose ads.

4. Analytics

The public pages use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to count visits, only if you accept it in the cookie notice; until then no Google Analytics script is loaded. It sets the cookies _ga (tells visits apart, 2 years) and _ga_<id> (keeps the session state, 2 years). Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses for EU users. Your choice is remembered for six months in the local storage item gearwatts:analyticsConsent, and you can change it at any time with «Cookie settings» at the foot of every page. The app (/app/) does not use Analytics.

5. Third-party services that receive your IP address

Maps and typefaces are loaded from OpenStreetMap, AWS Terrain Tiles, the PNOA orthophotos of the Spanish IGN (only for routes in Spain) and Google Fonts. These requests transmit your IP address as any web request does. More details are in the privacy policy.

6. How to change or withdraw your consent

Use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of any page to review or change your choice at any time. Withdrawing your consent does not affect what was done before.

7. How to delete cookies and storage in your browser

You can delete cookies and site data in your browser's settings (usually under Privacy or Security), and you can block them. Deleting the data of gearwatts.com resets your language, theme and view preferences and signs you out. Blocking Google's advertising cookies does not stop you from using GearWatts. Browsers explain the steps in their help pages.
